WELCOME ARTISTS!

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! I hope everyone has had a wonderful and restful summer!

As you've noticed there are some changes that have taking place in the art room including...what is this?...a projector?...technology? CRAZY I know! We will keep these changes if we like them...and if not...we'll get rid of them!

This year we will continue to work with materials that are familiar to us but I plan to add materials that are new...Paper Mache anyone? We will also continue with our artists of the month but I am adding a new piece to it...drum roll please....Art Element of the month! OH BOY! This will be an opportunity for us to talk about the art elements and identify them more consistently.

hmmm...let me think...anything else new?.... Not off the top of my head, but I as we progress I will keep everyone updated on any changes, modifications.

TODAY...Working in your small groups discuss.. Is Art a Language? And What are the Similarities and Differences between art and English? Spanish? French? What if everyone communicated through Pictures rather than words? Imagine and describe life with Art as our main Language?

Art Room Talk: The Best Game Ever!

A new game in the art room encourages students to collaborate with classmates to create a creative response to questions inspired by artists and art movements.

" Jackson Pollock was a renowned for his unconventional painting methods. He placed his canvas on the floor and dripped, poured and threw his paint at it, resulting in pictures that often remind viewers of childlike scribbles. Pollock's style of action painting is known as Abstract Expressionism."

Here's the question...What is the first work of art you remember creating? How did you make it?

Artist of the month update...

November's Artist was Gustav Stickley which inspired the students perspective drawings and paintings.


During December and January student's have learned about Jackson Pollock. They are currently working on a range of art using his painting techniques including dripping paint and making interesting marks with a variety of tools.

To create art or not to create art...what a silly question!

WHAT IS ART??!

"I could tell you that art plays a large part in making our lives infinitely rich. Imagine, just for a minute, a world without art! (You may think "So what?" but please consider the impact that lack of graphics would have on your favorite video game.) Art stimulates different parts of our brains to make us laugh or incite us to riot, with a whole gamut of emotions in between. Art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves.

Art is such a large part of our everyday lives that we may hardly even stop to think about it. Look at the desk or table where you are, right this minute. Someone designed that. It is art. Your shoes are art. Your coffee cup is art. All functional design, well done, is art. So, you could say "Art is something that is both functional and (hopefully) aesthetically pleasing to our eyes."

The Elements of Art...

An easy way to think of the Elements of Art is as the ingredients that an artist uses to create visual art. Similar to the ingredients used in baking a cake or cooking a chicken, the elements of art are used to create a sculpture, a painting, a website or even a comic strip. An artist, of course, does not need to use every element for every piece of art, same as a baker or a cook doesn't need to use all ingredients available to them for every meal. As artist we pick and choose what will fit our artistic needs.

Welcome to the Fremont Art Room!
This year Fremont students will have the chance to work creatively in the Art classroom with a variety of exciting materials including clay, paint, chalk pastels, paper mache, oil pastels, water colors, mixed media, and ink. Art students can look forward to opportunities for critical thinking, collaboration and innovation.

Each month throughout the school year students will be introduced to an artist whose impacted the art world. Students will view and discuss works of art from that month's artist.  And October Artist of the month....drum roll please....Salvador Dali

Student artwork during the month of October will make connections with the art of Dali and Surrealism.
